Sadly, it usually takes one bad egg (marketing leader) to turn a great work environment into a toxic one. Toxic as in -creating a divide between their own department on purpose, playing favoritism, not showing up to meetings, and making rude comments. It was always very frustrating to have passion for your work and trying to give your expertise to help benefit the company to find out that leadership doesn’t trust it’s own team. The leadership on the marketing team held the whole department back because of the lack of his experience of the financial industry.
Most of the C-suite does’t really want to try new ideas and usually feel threatened when other employees think of better or alternative solutions. They preach a culture of “life beyond the everyday” meaning they want to go above and beyond to anticipate member’s (customer’s) needs. But when in fact, they do the opposite. They rather inconvenience members to save themselves a few dollars.
