Pros

Incredible company culture. Work hard, play hard environment. Annual company trip/sales kick-off. GuidePoint hires the very best and the brightest.

Cons

Sales will sell anything. This creates pressure to recommend products which are not best-of-breed. Sales will not hesitate to throw the nearest engineer under the bus.

Pros

This company is great to work for because it is full of incredible talent and has a great culture. No matter how technical or obscure of a question I have, one of my colleagues likely has an answer or can help me out. The company is young and growing quickly thanks to the immense amount of talent. One of the company's core values is, "Don't be a jerk!" and it shows in almost every single interaction I have had with my colleagues. Everyone is good at something and together we accomplish some pretty awesome things. This company is strictly an information security company, so their services and offerings aren't diluted with unrelated distractions.

Cons

Not so much a con, but the company is largely virtual so your boss might be in another state or time zone. There are ways to work around this, but it's not a typical office-environment. This might be a con for some, but this is a work hard, play hard kind of company. People here do whatever it takes to get the job done, and done right, even if that means working late hours when needed. This is not the place you come to work straight-8's and skate.

Pros

Remote work is always a huge plus. Training courses are supported financially. There is a generous amount of PTO offered to consultants that is admirable.

Cons

The culture at GuidePoint Security, at least on the penetration testing side, focuses on socialization and team rapport as opposed to individual achievement. They value people who are liked by their peers more than outliers who are high performers. The work here is repetitive and uninspiring. Many of the consultants, including managers, are barely competent and lack fundamental knowledge of computer science and cybersecurity that they ought to know about. There is very little respect, if any, given to the types of projects that a consultant wants to work on. This is largely because sales is ineffective at selling different assessment types, but also due to the fact that the company is divided into components such as AppSec, TAS, DFIR, etc. and people don't get to venture out of their division. Since there isn't a sophisticated red team in place, there aren't opportunities to develop a wide array of skills beyond run-of-the-mill network penetration testing. On top of that, principal consultants do not make any attempt to pass on valuable knowledge that can only be gained via experience. As a result, things get repetitive fast and dissatisfaction ensues for a person who seeks to build expertise in different domains. During assessments, people fool around in a Zoom channel that is live 24/7. If you don't desire to engage in such behavior or "hang out" with coworkers who want to meet you IRL, you will be criticized. This is the perfect company for somebody who is fine with chugging along in life, anticipating a decent paycheck, and not being challenged. Anyone else is almost certain to be driven mad by monotony. I don't recommend joining this company, but if you join because you need a job to get by, remember that those in charge here should not be trusted because they are dishonest and will let go of you in a heartbeat, continuing on as if you never existed once you're gone. They claim to "care" and value their coworkers, but you are seen as nothing more than a cog in a machine, which is expressed through actions, not words. In short, this place isn't anything special, and I'm sure that they know who wrote this review.
