The Sad Truth

Pros

1. Hands down the people, there are some truly talented people here 2. If you are lucky enough to work with a high volume team you can make good money as a recent college grad 3. You can tell HR is trying to change things by adding lunches, happy hours, and company sponsored sports teams 4. location

Cons

1. The main con has and will continue to be the CEO, he cares about 1 things and 1 things only. His pockets. He is extremely smart but has no emotional intelligence and is the least approachable person in the office. 2. If you are not on a a good team you are stuck and their is not much you can do ( where I am now which is why I will be putting in my 2 week notice shortly) 3. You don't learn much, as an RA you are doing mind numbing sourcing on Linkedin and Zoominfo for 90 % of the day. 4. Pretty much no career progression. From an RA you move to a PM and thats where it ends. 5. The morale, everyone is unhappy and everyone is looking for or wants to look for a new job. 6. The Technology, the company uses their own CRM system that has to be the worst excuse for an internal system ever. Its slow and doesn't have half the functionality it needs. But we keep getting the "We are working hard on this speech" 7. No transparency at all, everything you hear is heard through the Grape vine. 8. The turnover, I have been here almost 2 year and every year there is about 40 % turnover

Pros

There are no pros to working here

Cons

As another reviewer put it, Guidepoint operates like it’s stuck in the 80s. As an associate I witnessed male managers (Team Leads and above) hit on younger Associates and RMs, going so far as to have them fired for rejecting their advances. Speaking of management, no one in those positions got there because of any skill set (though to be clear, you don’t need to be smart to succeed here), but because of tenure. They set unrealistic and unethical expectations where behavior that would get you fired at any other company is rewarded. You sit at a computer all day badgering people to take calls, often giving away your own personal information in the process, and at the last moment a client can cancel a project. They track every email you send, every phone call you make, and will fire you without warning if they think you aren’t doing enough. Moreover, the entire office can see how well you’ve “performed,” adding an unnecessary dimension of competitiveness and discourages the kind of team thinking that would actually engender positive results for the entire firm. They don’t care about development, they only care about paying advisors as little as possible, and in many cases not paying them at all, and overcharging big consulting and investment firm clients for access to a shoddy service. I would also like to address the reviewer who wrote the August 21, 2020 review, who I believe is a recruiter. First of all, get your terminology straight; this is not a high margin business. Second, the alternative data portion is not useful in any way; it’s just statistics taken from industry reports (an advisor I spoke to told me this). Third, this is not an investment bank, there is no deal flow. This is effectively the set of Workaholics. I was fortunate enough to be given another opportunity in another industry in another city, but I would implore anyone who is weighing an offer from Guidepoint to decline it and look elsewhere, for the sake of their own professional development and careers.

Pros

Having a Job in today's market.

Cons

There is NO camaraderie here. Everyone is for themselves and the minute you get to know someone they are out the door. The turn around is unbelievable. They are constantly hiring because people are constantly leaving. No one i know has a kind word to say about the overall vibe of Guidepoint.
