Pros

I loved the team members I worked alongside and also the interactions I had with parents when I was able to have them.

Cons

This organization is not transparent, not collective in decision making processes, and exploitative. During my time working with this organization, I was not onboarded and also was in over my head stepping into the role. The work culture is very business orientated and leadership expects their employees to work under pressure, with little to no support, and is unwilling to listen to voiced concerns. If you are expecting stability in knowing you will remain employed, I would not recommend working for this organization since their are many reductions to staff constantly for schools that are not on the threshold for profitability. If you are transparent, professionally and respectfully outspoken about issues/ inconsistencies, and also are not willing to work under harsh and unsupportive environments, I would not recommend working with this organization. I came into my role excited to connect with families and students and instead struggled with picking up work from the previous staff member on-top of not being trained or onboarded. The organization has SO much potential and I am sad there was not an environment that listened to, supported, and co-created sustainable and effective strategies with me to improve our programming quality.

Pros

I worked with a lot of great and professional people! I enjoyed the comradery etc. I can't imagine that many will stick around for an extended period of time if the company doesn't make some major foundational changes.

Cons

The company is growing at a very rapid rate and in the process is completely losing program quality. Many employees are frustrated, stressed and unhappy! HsOS are expected to work 60-65 hours to maintain and meet various deadlines. PTO is fairly generous, however, it is so hard to take true PTO b/c most often the school is still needing support due to lack of staffing and inexperience. HsOS come back to putting out fires etc. Not fun to return to that. Expectations are misaligned across the organization and oftentimes not realistic for certain campuses. There is also a ton of misinformation within the organization due to the rapid growth. You get told one thing and then something different from your RD. You then are left backtracking with staff and families! Very unprofessional and off putting. Causes undue stress. There is nearly no work/life balance. It is very unhealthy for someone with a family! Decent money (80-100K w/ bonus structure) but expect to work for it and not have a life. Some HsOS mentioned working upwards of 80 hours a week at times!! Teachers are also very stressed out with the level of workload expected of them which does not align with pay. The company offers an internal Montessori training for teachers but will only pay the same rate of pay other schools are paying for leads already! The training takes 12-18 months and is expected to be done completely outside of work hours. The pay has got to come up for this to be worth it for teachers!

Pros

Tuition discount if you want your child going to a school like that

Cons

Money is the main goal. They don't care about kids.

Thank you for taking time to share your frustrations with us. Your perspective is both appreciated as a point of learning and simultaneously confusing; as the only Head of School to leave their role in the past nine months was the Head of School at our Williamsburg campus who was promoted to another role within our network and is clearly not you. Based upon the nature of your comments, it appears that you were a candidate who participated in the interview process and has never worked for our organization. Because we care deeply about each and every child, we are dedicated to bringing Montessori to more families and children around the world. It was evident that our Montessori approach to diversity and inclusion and the community being served in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, were not a match for your own professional goals. We wish you the best in your continued search.
