False Promises and No Follow Through
Pros
Working at Guitar Center, you definitely get to meet a lot of people with interest in music and different areas of knowledge. Helping people find their first instrument and watching them walk out happy is a fantastic feeling. The coworkers are nice on a personal level and can really feel inclusive.
Cons
The sales floor is littered with a selfish attitude. As a commission based job, this is a little understandable, but the lengths people go to undermine, belittle, and straight away snake sales from others is ridiculous. Territorial attitude over ANY customer. If a customer asks a question, ANY question, and they've been working with another employee, expect to have that interaction shut down by someone yelling, "I WAS WORKING WITH THEM, I'LL BE THERE SOON." In another instance, the only reason I even became a sales associate was because I was asked to help out for a period of time as a key-holder. I like the manager and saw this as an opportunity to help the store succeed and to help coworkers in a time where we really needed the extra hands. This was a lie as, a few months later, this is not even being considered anymore and I am unable to move back to my original position in Operations under threat of having ALL of my hours cut. I am now stuck in a sales job, that I was assured I'd be able to change from in one way or the other, with nothing I can really do about it.
