Pros

Get to be around all kinds of cool gear like amps, guitars, basses, audio equipment, and you do learn a lot by being in that environment all the time. Also getting to talk to like-minded musicians all day is a great way to spend your time while making a little money.

Cons

This company has been in brutal debt for a long time now and everyone up and down the entire hierarchy of management feels the pressure. This leads to nonsensical solutions like the constant slashing of hours of employees, leaving any remaining staff on the floor with their hands so full that customers either wait angrily and resentfullly, or just flat out walk out of the store. The turnover rate at some stores is so high that oftentimes much knowledge of how store processes work, end up disappearing with the employees who quit or were let go. Demands and actions of management seem to follow no real logic, or a tangible realistic plan for improvement for either the employees or the customers.

Terrible Company To Work For

Pros

Get to work with musical instruments, occasionally famous musicians will stop in. Employee discount is great.

Cons

Technology is decades behind, company makes it hard for associates to hit sales per hour, constant restructure from the top down. No stability in job position, lack of communication on all levels. Hourly micromanaging, plan to be on conference calls during peak selling times then get held accountable for poor customer service scores. Tech department closed on weekends so if your system goes down you are left to figure out on your own. Lots of steps for a simple transaction even more for a customer return and heaven help you if it’s from a sister company like musicians friend. Lessons program is separate from the store making it difficult to help instructors and students. Service now app is a joke leaving the store to figure out loop holes on how to help customers. Unorganized policy and procedures you need to know the exact keyword to find help on their “backstage” app.
