Corporate (WHQ) Position Review (Legal)
Pros
HRB provides strong support for continued learning and growth (provided you are willing to be an advocate for yourself). Opportunities are there for those willing to put the effort into grabbing them. I've never felt "bored" or unchallenged in over 15 years of work with the company. Associates are encouraged to think critically and propose (and execute) process changes when appropriate and necessary. The new CEO is especially in tune to challenges facing the company and strongly supports the ideas, strength, and experience of its people to help the company thrive. Department and position dependent, the company is good with alternative work arrangements, such as remote work opportunities, work from home, and flexible schedules. Office dress is business casual and in some departments, even more casual. World Headquarters office is beautiful and has a great cafeteria, with loads of great places nearby in KC Power & Light.
Cons
Work-life balance is very difficult during the winter months for corporate associates (Nov - Jan) due to pressures of tax season deliverables. It's difficult (almost impossible) to take time away over the holidays. This is a known in the industry, but if you are looking at HRB it's something you need to be aware of. At one time you would have more "down time" off-season, but that's no longer the case with constant legislative disruption. Pay increases are very hard to come by. You have to advocate loud and long for position advancement and salary increases. I've experienced gender bias in this area. While not overt, it's definitely a noticeable trend.
