Pros

Big projects, interesting work when there is work, variety of projects and exposure to different projects, understanding of personal and family issues, flexible working hours, good benefits

Cons

No opportunity to advance, work comes in waves with no ability to control the work flow, high demand on utilization with no ability manage utilization with the way work ones and goes, poor communication between management and employees, poor communication between managers, lack of management and direction, below average pay, no uniform goals and objectives and expectations, everyone does their own thing their own way, everyone fends for themselves and does not work share

Possibly too big to succeed?

Pros

Some positions are better compensated than at other firms.

Cons

My impression is in this merger-crazy time, HDR is behaving like its competition by buying smaller companies that have decent projects and high-profile clientele. One shouldn't look for a job in corporate architecture with more that 5,000-person firms the craft of architecture and engineering is what one loves about their work.
