Pros

Great young professional program, lots of freedom to develop professionally, decent flexibility with work hours and plan, good coworkers, firm is respected in the engineering and architecture fields, good benefits

Cons

Mid-level managers leave something to be desired, not always as forward looking as they should be in today's world. They claim to have a strong set of values, but I didn't see this expressed in the employees. There is also a bit of a feeling of the HQ (in Omaha) being the flagpole that you want to stay away from, but at the same time if you're not there, you're left a bit out of the loop. They made an honest effort with the performance evaluation system, but the employees down the chain (including managers) didn't make it a priority.

Pros

Nice coffee mug, pen, and portfolio.... that is about it.

Cons

I completely agree with the following posts: -on 03/09/12 "Disappointing" -on 02/19/12 "Incompetent Senior Management" -on 12/30/11 "Save Yourself - Look Elsewhere" -on 11/09/11 "“Ability and effort..playing politics" I agree; it was the worst nightmare I could possibly imagine at a job. There are several grossly mismanaged departments led by staff who have been with the company for less than 5 years. I was very disheartened when I discovered a senior manager (regional leader) was not familiar with the concept of "Deputy Project Manager." In the engineering field, I think we all value the distinction between a DPM and PM, don't we? I too was faced with having to deal with a lack of respect and lack of common courtesy. I agree that only those who are willing to play politics with upper management and try to be "one of the boys" will be successful. If you find yourself in a well-managed department, you are very fortunate. But why take the risk? In the environmental planning industry, there are many other firms that know how to function much more efficiently and effectively than the environmental planning group in this firm. Other firms know much more about what needs to be done for typical engineering projects.
