Pros

Flexible work schedule. You can work when you want, day night, weekends weekdays as long as you meet at core hours.

Cons

Terrible management. Very stubborn and resistant to change. Their answer is always no even if it means getting your work done. No relevant training.

- Freedom to explore/learn various aspects of the software developed - Great leadership by technical leads - No micromanaging of work being done - Minimal required meetings--more time to program - No toxic culture, very friendly environment - Access to cutting-edge technology (e.g., beefy work laptops, workstations, etc.)

Cons

- Legacy components that are slowly being upgraded - Inconsistent/bloated software requirements due to lack of direction by customers/program managers) - Corporate HR/IT pains (e.g., arbitrary promotion slots available, inconsistent raises, etc.) - Defense will always pay less than other areas of the technology market
