Pros

Hal Leonard has some great products, and good pay and benefits. The work for a Web software developer there is fun, but challenging. The coworkers are fun and smart.

Cons

Software process and tools are hilariously backwards. CVS, FTP, no automated testing or deployment, and all homebrewed tools for issue tracking and publishing leave a lot to be desired. Insurance and benefits unnecessarily complex. No process improvement, any new ideas seen as a threat.

Pros

You don't bring it home, literally or emotionally. Not micromanaged in my department.

Cons

Closed-minded management, poor management skills across the board, antiquated ideals, not open to new ideas, no flexibility in hours (unless you have children—parents get a lot more freedom and flexibility), blatant double standards throughout the company, majority of employees have been there so long that there's no room for advancement or change --- most are stuck in their ways and do the bare minimum. Complaints made about disruptive employees repeatedly fall on deaf ears. Not a progressive company in any way, does not support outside interests or volunteer work (unless it involves going to the gym owned by the Chairman or supporting the charity the Chairman supports), does not promote from within, pay not based on experience.
