Pros
Great location and weather. The university sits on the Chesapeake Bay. The weather is not bad at all. Hot summers and very mild winters.
Cons
The overall attitude of employees was not one to be desired. Students where given a constant run around. Freedom of speech, unless it is approved by the President of the university is not allowed. It has to be a positive tone. On the outside looking in, it has a reputation for great academic value. But the reality is different. Their credits don't transfer to other institutions. Many of my former students couldn't transfer to other institutions because their credits didn't transfer. The only way to achieve that was to leave after your first semester. They constantly scrambled to regain accreditation for certain programs every summer. The teachers while many were unbiased in their teachings, many still taught a very different story. They were constantly race baiting. It was always the "white man" that was at fault for everything. I have worked at other HBCU institutions and that was not the premise of their education. The student body took it upon themselves to upload videos to youtube of what is known as the Hampton run-around. The videos were a true to life example of what exist at this institution. it was quickly deleted off youtube. But not before it received thousands of views. The students were reprimanded. Overall, the school was and can become the great institution that once educated people like Booker T Washington. But unless things change, it will continue to be a stagnant institution .
