Pros

The people are truly incredible. Smart, kind, passionate about the mission, and inspire each other to go above and beyond. Not only do you look around and are proud of your teammates, but there is real community and camaraderie built across many teams. The business model is smart, unique and defensible, this is not your average point Saas solution which makes the problems harder, but also more interesting. There's been meaningful progress made against the mission while growing the business YoY, not many startups can claim that. Leadership is in the work and in the details, because they actually care about driving outcomes. Having leaders that are willing to roll up their sleeves and do the work can be intimidating and intense, but I prefer it to having leaders who are above doing the work. Handshake can be intense, chaotic, fast paced and hard work, but is equal parts fun, rewarding, fulfilling and a career catapult.

Cons

The business is complex, and every win is hard fought. The business & its success is very tied to the ebb and flow of the economy.

Pros

Handshake continues to change to meet the market conditions and focus on developing new ways to help every one of our customers. It's been hard in tech overall, and when companies like Snowflake, Zoom, and DataDog have cut growth by nearly 75% - it's easy to get negative. The reality is, we are in a market that dependant on hiring, which is at historic lows in white collar jobs. AND WE STILL GREW. It shouldn't be lost on folks who are reading these reviews how hard that is for a startup. 2015-2021 were good times, and it seems like a lot of people forget or don't know how hard building a big business is. It requires solid leadership and the ability to change as the market does. We have done that, and continue to grow. I'm bullish for the future

Cons

It's just a tough market to be in right now. Everyone in the recruiting and TA tech industry is showing signs of trouble due to the times. This can create an urgency to build and sell, and if you are not ready for urgency, it could be a tough environment to be in. That being said, when we build we help college students find jobs, it's always a mission you can get behind.

Pros

I've been at Handshake for a year and it's been an amazing experience so far. Every day I'm learning something new and I actually feel like I'm a part of building a business. I've found the leaders to be very personable and actually value what I have to say. It's a culture of debating to get to the best answer as a group. Our CEO is super passionate and the more I hear him talk about the vision for where the platform is going, the more hyped I feel. It's been a rough year+ with the broader economy but I'm actually feeling optimistic about where the company is headed. I also have loved the people I'm working with. The company is actually mission-driven -- that's not just something said on the career page. People care deeply about the mission and I think people want this company to succeed so that more students are getting good jobs. Almost everyone I come across at Handshake has their own "Handshake story" as to why they are here. This is something you get everywhere, trust me. This move quickly here. High velocity, high impact. I get that not everyone wants to work at a fast pace so perhaps this isn't for everyone, but I've enjoyed working with people that value high pace and getting sh*t done.

Cons

It can be intense. Some people consider this to be a downside, I guess. Leadership is also involved a lot in the work. Definitely feels like a start up
