Pros

As mentioned in a lot of other posts, your coworkers are often the biggest plus of working at Hanover. For entry-level folks, you can gain some basic work experience and at least some degree of insight about the types of questions that businesses are interested in trying to answer from market research perspective. For those interested in one day being a company decision maker (at Hanover or elsewhere), you can learn a lot about what *not* to do as an influencer, which can be extremely valuable since real-world problem solving often eludes simple, direct answers and can be heavily determined by communication ability (e.g. by actually having conversations with people).

Cons

Unfortunately, the camaraderie that develops between you and your coworkers often comes from complaining about the work and the company itself. For the work, I would describe it as generally unfulfilling. You can expect in any job that there will be tasks that you enjoy doing and tasks that you do not enjoy doing, but in my experience the work at Hanover is tilted towards the latter category and especially so for entry-level employees. For the company, there is a surprising lack in transparency and excess of bureaucracy for a company of Hanover's size. The former makes it very difficult for most employees to have meaningful conversations about their future at Hanover (as well as the future of the company itself) and the latter makes it very difficult to affect any type of positive change. These two issues are confounding by the fact that quite a few upper echelon people at Hanover have little to no experience outside of Hanover and often little aptitude for managing employees.

Thank you for your feedback. I am surprised to read that you did not find the work fulfilling at all. Most employees, even if they have moved on from Hanover, comment on the variety of topics and breadth of research exposure and training they receive during their time at Hanover. Hanover management has made numerous avenues available for engaging directly with our C-suite (in person and virtually) so I am unsure how much more transparent we can be with employees. Our CEO's recent communication to employees discussed our plans for smart growth moving forward instead of just year-over-year growth of revenue so we are hearing what our employees are saying and making those changes.

Intelligent Employees but Unreasonable Expectations

Pros

Hanover attracts incredibly intelligent staff making it a great place to develop your skill set. They also provide a lot of upward mobility for employees just starting out in account management. The company and workforce are young and there is palpable energy in the air.

Cons

Leadership of the Account Management department consistently requires long hours. Management sets high goals and does not adapt them for employee resources and capacity. Additionally, all management and non-manager levels are micro-managed to the point of updated status reports multiple time a week during campaigns and the last six weeks of the quarter. Lastly, executive management rules with an iron fist and provides little positive feedback outside of meeting revenue goals.

Thank you for your feedback. The Account Management team is responsible for managing the relationships with our clients, making it a highly skilled and highly valued role at the company. Team members within this position are frequently required to commit significant effort to internal coordination, client service, and revenue objectives. Hanover's core objective is to serve our clients and there are times when our Account Management team is expected to do more than a regular 40 hour work week to meet this objective. Acknowledging this, Hanover has put tools in place to help manage the prioritization of tasks and workload. Hanover has recently invested in a senior manager training module to ensure that we are equipping our managers with the tools needed to foster successful employee/manager relationships. In addition, we are exploring additional flexibility options like dedicated planning days that can be incorporated into the role to encourage and support increased work/life balance. We look forward to continuing these investments and making efforts to address any and all work/life balance concerns. We are always receptive to feedback and suggestions from staff to improve the challenging aspects of a role so encourage current employees in this role to share their suggestions and feedback with their manager or directly with me.

Pros

Nice location compared to the old one

Cons

There's a reason why Hanover has such high turnover rates, and it's not because DC is a transient city. The superiors have no clue what they're doing, receive no training, and don't know how to manage projects. They don't like to be corrected or told they're wrong, too. I moved from one team to another and this problem was still there. If you need this job, I highly suggest you don't say anything if you are working overtime or if you're burnt out. They use it against you. Don't be honest in your check-ins, they're not on your side. Just take the job and start looking for something new around 6 months in. You also only get a raise if they like you, the superiors are really unhappy with their lives so if they mess up a project and blame it on you or they contradict themselves, don't go toe to toe with them. Just say thanks for letting me, I'll try harder next time and let it go. Also HR is not on your side so don't go to them for help. If you take this job get in and get out. Trust no one. Also companies can make fake reviews on here so look for the positive reviews on here, remember what they say, and watch how they don't match up with your experience at Hanover.

Thank you for your feedback. Our biggest asset at Hanover is our people; we have an extraordinarily talented workforce, and we take the responsibility of advancing their careers very seriously. While there is always room for improvement, we pride ourselves on our robust and transparent performance management culture.Clearly Hanover was not a good fit for you; I do hope we were able to inflect your learning in some way and wish you every success in your future endeavors.
