Pros

PTO stacks nicely Decent Leaders Friendly coworkers Work Life balance is somewhat true decent benefits with 20% employee discounts

Cons

Now here we go for the cons because I have plenty, first off i’m sure the biggest motivator in any job is the pay and as we know the state of florida is the least affordable state to live in. Harbor Freight prides itself in not keeping their pay a secret especially in areas such as california and new york where supervisors get paid 20+ even 22 an hour. Thats actually pretty good and to me worth working for harbor freight if i got paid that much. But in the employee handbook it clearly states they offer competitive pay. But when you confront management about said issue it gets shrugged off and say its based off the market. So why is it that in one of the most expensive states and overpopulated states pay the least? Simple it’s because they think they can get away with it and will find someone stupid enough to except the abysmal pay. It is 100% not the case and completely demoralizing for someone wishing to grow within the company with plenty of prior supervisory experience with a degree. Its just baffling how they don’t even try to look at the district or regional pay with how much money they profit in florida. I can easily see the numbers they’re posted everyday on the break room for everyone to see. The minimum wage in florida increased but it feels as if retailers are not even trying to balance out the gap. Some people in the fast food industry make more than me. The fast food industry completely shifted their wages while every other job is basically making as much as them if not less? It’s actually extremely ridiculous, to the point where I don’t even need this job because other retailers simply pay significantly more such as best buy, target, lowes, home depot etc. What bothers me the most is the senior leadership that simply do not care because they don’t even try to contact HR and try to make a change for their employees because I mean what do they care? They’re a district manager or regional manager rolling in money and the people on the top are never really going to look out for the people at the bottom. Don’t get me wrong im a hard worker and i have no problem working, i’d even work OT if Harbor Freight even allowed it but they don’t one bit. I’m not going to disclose my full pay as a supervisor as it’s even embarrassing to even share as well as personal but it’s well under 17hr. To anyone in the state of florida looking to grow in a company I would steer clear from this one, even if you see wonderful things they’re doing as a company such as opening multiple stores a month and growing as a company. The CEO Eric Smidt is a great CEO as a business man but as all businessmen they’re blind to what the workers actually feel and I doubt he really even cares to that extent. If they simply paid everyone more to what the positions are market value wise and actually follow their employee handbook guidelines by offering competitive pay then they should not have a problem bringing in even more money in such a gargantuan market. I’m not going to complain about other stuff such as how everything has to be perfect and the harbor freight way and etc. when all that negative mindset simply changes if you change what I had discussed earlier. The company prides in posting the pay on platforms such as linkedin. They simply just don’t care if you connect the dots because they know nothing will come of it.
