Expectations of employees can be unobtainable in some cases. I was rated Exceeds Expectations for many years and then, with a new manager, everything changed. The department that I worked in was managed poorly and stress among the employees was extremely high. The culture thrived on ambiguity and many people were miserable, including me. I chose retirement, only to find that receiving my retirement benefits has been nothing short of hours on the phone and following-up over and over with the company and outsourced agencies to try to receive what I have earned. It has been very frustrating to say the least, and overly burdensome and time consuming.

All large publicly traded companies have to abide by this generic set of rules throughout the organization (think HR department). The interesting thing about H-D however, is the fact that many of these corporate ideals conflict with the brand's own identity. One example- If a beautiful model posed for a harley-davidson calendar, you likely can't hang said calendar at your desk because it's "offensive". BUT IT'S A HARLEY-DAVIDSON CALENDAR!!
