Pros
The pay for me was better than you would find at other stores, and when I first started I loved working at Harmons. I had a great assistant manager whom ended becoming the manager, and the Store Director was good at understanding employees. I appreciated the Assistant Store Director too. I formed a bond with select individuals at my location. I didn't mind it. I felt valued and respected.
Cons
After working at Harmons for so long, and seen the changes, I felt unapppreciated. I busted my butt for my Managers in my area. I learned the products, and went out of my way for my customers. I miss my customers, I don't miss the management now. The place became uncaring to employees. I knew that I couldn't count on my Store Director who is 2 faced to back me up when needed. I did more than the rest in my area. Extra responsibilities were given to me, because the managers knew I would do it, and make sure it was done correctly. I had customers who looked for me all the time. I appreciated their kindness and appreciation to me. I would work most holidays, but, I would be able to negotiate New Year's Eve and New Year's off most years because of how good I was of a worker, and then get Easter off. I would work early on Christmas Eve, and would be off till after the New Year. However, I gave my all to my position. Took on extra responsibilities without the extra pay. I ran a tight ship in my area. I worked as a lead w/out the title. Now these days, that place has gone down hill big time. When I left we got 100% all the time on inspection from Better Basics, after I left, they get hit all the time since my other co-worker who helped me with the running of the area doesn't have my help. I don't buy any of the products from that dept at that location now because I am not there, and have heard the stories from current employees. I really do love some of the ones that are there, but, management doesn't seem to enforce the Better Basics all that well there. It's the discipline of the older employees. I have one friend I do so love who's in Corporate, and she's wonderful, but, not all of them are as good as her. That location has lost many valuable employees because of not treating them well. I had a manager who would work with my scheduling needs w/school and time off when he was there. After he left, the other ones didn't want to work with me, and after I left, many followed suit as the fact was that the manager didn't treat people well, and the Store Director backed up her crap. I miss working with my customers, and the job was easy enough, and I didn't want to quit until I had to move to another college, but, I had to find my solace and happiness. My job was killing me, and the management was unprofessional, and abusive after a while.
