Potentially Great Company Hindered by Greed and Favoritism

Pros

Great educational opportunities, stories, products, and competitor differentiators in terms of food quality and selection. Breaks are encouraged, opportunities to move up within stores to higher management positions. If you are an incredibly likable person with minimal flaws and human traits, this employer may be the fit for you.

Cons

A local grass-roots company with large potential falls flat, and it's saddening. There are so many good opportunities for improvement that are overshadowed by an aversion to change and poor treatment of employees. Poor management from the bottom to the top with a lack of willingness to improve. If you question any sort of the company's methodology or get on someone's "bad side" in any capacity, a target is painted on your back and your time becomes limited. Harmons claims to put its associates first, but mistreats them consistently and willfully ignores glaring issues, i.e. understaffing, instead pushing hard-working and skilled employees to their breaking points. Great educational opportunities, stories, products, and competitor differentiators are diminished by management refusing to change and admit they are lacking. Favoritism is rampant throughout the entire company, with some associates receiving better treatment or opportunities based on their social standing. If you are lower on the "social rank", your mistakes hold larger consequences. Some fellow associates can and will get away with things you will not be allowed to. Associates are made to feel devalued or unintelligent, individuals refuse to shoulder the blame for their mistakes and instead defer it onto others. Various legal issues between management and lower department members, whether it be lack of communication altogether or asking for unnecessary (i.e. HIPAA-protected) info from employees. Attempts to get the company to unionize resulted in pro-union employees being "encouraged" to leave. All is glossed over.

Pros

Paid weekly, your immediate coworkers usually are great.

Cons

Upper management doesn’t care about you, managers reap the benefits off your work, constant nagging session by store director, no recognition, CEO is a narcissist.
