Poor training/management

Pros

The people that go to Harmons are very nice, appreciate the customer service and the wide selection of gluten free and organic items we have in the store. Bob comes into the store regularly and he's an awesome guy. From what I see. Always friendly. And not overly cheesy with customers.

Cons

Training and management needs some work. I've worked multiple places being a front end cashier, but the way they have Harmons set up has got to be the most awful company I have worked for. Drama with other employees (managers included) no flexabilty, favoritism, odd hours, low pay, have to jump through hoops in order to get paid a little better. I joined Harmons because I liked the mission statements...and believed they would value the people who worked for them. Sadly the mission statement isn't true.

Pros

Some of your coworkers can be some of the best people you've ever met. Your compensation for working at a grocery store is higher than other places.

Cons

Your work will be taken advantage of and you can't trust anyone to not gossip about you and your life. The people that are great end up leaving or being removed, and the bad people rise in the ranks. If management doesn't like you for personal reasons, they'll try to push you out passive aggressively.

Soul sucking

Pros

Decent pay compared to some retailers but definitely not enough for the amount of work required. Coworkers can be good but also can be horrible.

Cons

Management is trash. There is severe nepotism and suck up behavior that gets people to the top, not actual work or dedication. There is massive amount of production in departments with limited staff for little reason other than to get tax write offs from the government to supplement their loss in income because foot traffic has dropped tremendously over the years and they continue to raise prices. Massive amounts of disrespect and lack of care for the safety of employees and staff when it comes to allegations of sexual harassment, racism, and assault. Management has basically a no fire policy so they don’t have to pay unemployment out and will keep employees who should have been booted for ethical reasons. Huge disparities between departments and employee wages despite same amounts of work. But hey it’s all worth it right? You get that 3 $ off coupon in the mail on your birthday and why would you want a raise or actual benefits that don’t come with hidden fees when you can get expired cake that’s left sitting in the break room for over a week collecting flies?
