      Insurance...and that's about it. There are no pros for working at Harris County Institute of Forensic Science.

      Cons

      Do not apply for this job. The pay is a meager $14 an hour and you will deal with some of the most dangerous situations. You do not get raises and there is no overtime paid, yet you will constantly work late. They require you to have a college degree yet pay you as if you worked at Mcdonalds. HCIFS does not care about its employees and constantly puts them in dangerous situations with no regard for safety. There are many OSHA violations that are ongoing yet no one seems to want to do anything about it. This is not a place you want to work.

      Pros

      The retirement plan, health care plan and just the benefits of being an employee there are great. Floating holiday on top of other holidays and great health, dental and vision benefits.

      Cons

      The pay offered for the jobs, especially when looking at the requirements that they demand is crazy....salaries and hourly pay should be higher for the requirements. Also work environment can be somewhat hostile to newbies...a lot of cut throat competition for promotions and survival.
