Pros

Overall Management is good and can always be better.

Cons

I feel that Corporate can and should do a better job at encouraging store managers to promote and remind the rank and file associate the importance of seizing opportunities to promote and practice "OEEE", as well as the importance of speaking/engaging the customer which does and will create customer well being and confidence while discouraging ulterior motives and subversion.

Pros

Slightly better base pay compared to some retail/grocery jobs.

Cons

If you set your availability to all day, they will try their best to schedule you for double shifts or 12 hour shifts as often as possible. If you're more conservative of your availability, they'll make sure you get minimal to no hours of work time. Additionally, if you do manage to snag normal working hours and duration, they'll undercut the hours you work by 15 minutes just so you have a 15 minute break instead of a 30. Management will berate you for talking to other cashiers or going to the bathroom for more than 5 minutes (sometimes a trip to the bathroom just takes some time!). As with any retail job, customers are horrible and entitled and your lower back, feet, and knees will probably be in pain/sore unless you are making sure you move around often, which is harder for a cashier. Employee discount is almost non-existent for a store that's already overpriced in every product. Overall my worst career experience so far, will never work there again and will avoid shopping there as much as possible.

Pros

The customers were all local and I formed lasting bonds with people in my community. I loved being extra helpful to all of the seniors on their discount day. They always had interesting things to tell me and were very appreciative of my work. The work hours were very flexible as long as you were not taking off holidays and requested 2 weeks in advance. I love their focus on pleasing the customers and giving employees authority to actually be able to help customers if something goes wrong and if you are in over your head you can always get a manager.

Cons

The management was ultimately their downfall along with hiring some really dumb workers. It is what makes a place like Harris Teeter a temporary job. While some workers always had your back. The mismanagement ultimately made me have to go through training twice after getting back from college. After they mishandled my educational leave form. I was forced to resign, despite me handing my form directly to my boss. Since my boss moved on he never turned it in and management at Harris Teeter just told me that there was nothing they could do. There was a high turnover of employees that made it difficult to create a strong bond with a boss. All of the best bosses always transferred stores. When I was absent I felt like customers were not fully cared for and the experience varied greatly based on who was working.
