benefits decline every year & unpaid overtime is required

Pros

The major benefit is access to the libraries.

Cons

It's a hellish place to work. The administrators are anti-intellectual and so undermine all research-oriented work. HR routinely assigns far more duties to the lowest salary grade than can possibly be accomplished during the "standard" 35-hour work week, resulting in forced unpaid overtime to not get a bad annual review. And compensation has declined every year for 8 years: there are zero cost-of-living raises and each year benefits covered are reduced thus increasing the out-of-pocket costs for medical, dental, and vision healthcare substantially.

Harvard Does Not Care

Pros

The university has great resources, social networks, and research occurring everywhere by virtue of the institution’s prestige.

Cons

Absolute worst I have ever been treated in a job. I see now that a place as powerful as Harvard has no incentive to compete as an employer, or make you feel valued in any way. Continuous lack of clarity, mismanagement, no response to queries or critiques, AND no room for financial or professional growth! Their HR has some kind of algorithmic chokehold on raises and promotions that seem functionally insurmountable, even when taking on things far outside your job description. Not worth taking a job here unless you’re a clout chaser and looking to burn through about 2 years of work and then promptly move on.
