      Pros

      The base benefits and salaries at Harvard are generally better than those of comparable jobs at other universities and colleges in the area. How pleasant it is to work there kind of depends on the culture of the department you land in. Mine is wonderful, we’re a small close-knit and competent staff with a lot of independence and trust from our faculty.

      Cons

      The bureaucracy can be a little crazy. Like the time our union had to fight the university for 18 months just to get us an almost-decent raise after we came back to the office post-COVID. But on the plus side, our union is generally very good.

      Pros

      Harvard offers so many resources and benefits to employees. Of particular note is the tuition assistance program which allows staff to take courses at the Extension School for a very low price. Medical, dental, and vision benefits were also good.

      Cons

      Many new initiatives and policy changes were rolled out without soliciting input from front-line staff who work directly with students. It sometimes felt like front-line staff's voices weren't really heard when they had concerns and tried to bring those concerns to senior administration.
