Pros

Work-life balance, ability to telecommute, friendly coworkers, competitive pay, opportunity for every employee to own stock. The PTO policy is basically to take what you need either for sick or vacation time, and they trust employees to not abuse it. The company values transparency and innovation, which fosters an open environment where I feel like my opinion matters and I can contribute when I see areas for improvement.

Cons

Most positions require some travel, but I feel that this is offset by the ability to work from home periodically. Desperately need standardization around several processes such as project management and version control of analytic applications-- too many people are doing things in different ways.

Thank you for your thoughts/suggestions. We also see the need for standardization and project management (in appropriate forms) as being vital to our ability to scale the business. Thanks again.

Pros

Employee and culture focused organization encouraging employees to magnify their strengths. Greatest company i have worked for. I love the unique culture - encouragement of work life balance through unlimited PTO, providing generous benefits, providing and encouraging healthy lifestyles, and recognition of all employees at all levels for jobs well done. I love the unique approach to measuring success across the organization - defined measures equally across all levels of the organization, transparency in the goals as well as our achievements, and including actual customer success as a measure for the company. I love the recognition and management involvement with the employees - monthly all team member meetings where all are encouraged to participate (not just a ra-ra pep rally), Sr. Management participation in day to day activities, and full transparency and disclosure of decisions that affect each and every employee.

Cons

The company seems to be in the 'Teenager' stage of maturity. With all kinds of activity firing inside showing ideas (good and bad) actively trying to influence the organization causing, at times, a struggle for various identities. This is a phase and maturity is bound to prevail....as with all teenagers, they eventually they grow up.

Great analogy! And like teenagers (at least in my case:)), I am sure there will be many things we are doing that we will look back upon one day and say, "what were we thinking??" We can't predict the future, and no one here is perfect, so we will all make mistakes and fail, and that is why we will find success. Agreed that we must hold to those things that cannot change. Thanks for your help in making this happen!

Pros

The company is mission focused and principle based. Leadership lives the principles and emulates the 'Catalyst Way' everyday. In my 25 year career in healthcare and HIT, Catalyst is the best organization I have worked for. I heartily recommend joining the team for anyone that loves to innovate, work hard, collaborate with a fantastic team, and make a positive difference in a company and bringing data driven change to healthcare! Smart, hardworking and humble. Solid benefits, compensation, in a dynamic, growing, stimulating environment. Simply the BEST! If you are the type of person who sees a problem you can help solve, are eager to jump in with both feet, organize a team, and take action; you will likely be successful. If you like to see problems, identify them and wait to be assigned to task a force or gab at the water cooler to about the latest dumb management decision; look somewhere else.

Cons

Agile environment, rapid change, make some people uneasy. If a start up makes you nervous, if you need lots of direction to succeed, you will not be happy here.

I could not agree more with your advice. We will only succeed as we push down responsibility and decision making, and trust not only the next level down, but another two levels below that, to make decisions that were made 100% by the leadership team in the early days. This is the trick (and usually the gating factor) to scale in any business, in any industry. I would love specific examples (from you, or any other team members) of situations, processes, functions, etc. that you see as something where decisions should be owned and made at a lower level than it is done today. We can only jump start this evolution if we have "things" to tackle. We on the LT are keen to this issue, and interested in improving here, but we can only see so much. Would love it if people brought things that they see along these lines to my attention. Would love to discuss, and be a conduit to the LT on this. Email me! Thanks so much for your thoughts!!
