Pros

Health Catalyst is a great place to work. The CEO and the executive team work hard to ensure that every team member feels valued and appreciated. This is done not only through word but also by action. In my time with Health Catalyst, I have been compensated fairly, received amazing benefits, and have enjoyed a great work-life balance. All this while doing meaningful work. In my opinion, Health Catalyst is best company you could work for. Though the work of transforming Healthcare is rewarding, it can be tough. I work in a client-facing role that can be stressful and demanding at times. But through it all, I have never felt alone. All of my co-workers have been phenomenal. There is a great team environment with each member being willing to help while still maintaining sincere interest in one another. Health Catalyst strives to hire World-Class employees and it shows.

Cons

While Health Catalyst encourages their employees to develop and learn, not a lot of in-house training is provided. When training is brought up it is often through books, pre-recorded videos, or third-party videos. It should be noted that Health Catalyst does offer a generous educational assistance benefit for self-directed training or training through a third-party. Though these options can provide value, I believe there is a plethora of untapped knowledge within Health Catalyst that could be used to train and develop other employees. Such training would be beneficial and better prepare employees for their future careers whether that be at Health Catalyst or somewhere else. Personally, I hope to stay at Health Catalyst for a long time but I want to make sure I am developing skills that could be used inside or outside of Health Catalyst.

Thank you for your thoughtful and detailed review and feedback. I really appreciate it. I'm also encouraged to hear of your positive experiences during the past 1-2 years of your time as a team member at Health Catalyst. You certainly have my commitment to keep the team member experience as my #1 priority. I also appreciated your thoughts and feedback regarding training and development, and the potential to have Health Catalyst offer more direct training and education. I'm excited about some of the new training content being developed, specifically in the professional services organization, that I hope will be useful to you. We have been investing in developing this content and training support, so I hope you will find it helpful as we roll it out. Thank you again for choosing to come to Health Catalyst and to stay at Health Catalyst. Best, Dan

Pros

I ran into some issues with the infertility benefit where the uninsured, cash-price for some necessary medications was $4,500. Aetna charged us $12,000 (267% more than someone without insurance). I took the issue to HR and we fought them for months without success. I finally met with our CEO personally and explained the issue, and he enlisted our CPO, who in turn put Health Catalyst's insurance broker on the case. The issue was solved in a couple of weeks, and we ended up paying a few hundred out of pocket. A few things I want to point out here. 1) An Infertility benefit is rare, but they stand behind it and will do what it takes to deliver on that benefit. 2) HR was immediately available and happy to help, and worked with us for a long time trying to solve the issue. 3) Our CEO (who runs a large company with many hundreds of employees) was willing to meet with me personally, listen carefully, and promptly engage valuable company time and resources to solve the problem of one employee. There have been a couple instances of team members passing away, and leadership has reached out personally to the families and offered continued salary, benefits, and tuition assistance until they get back on their feet. Yes, the benefits are world-class, but I place an even higher value on compassionate leadership. I know they've got my back.

Cons

From a technical perspective, there needs to be more emphasis and drive to scale horizontally rather than vertically. I believe there are some stacks/apps that do, but generally speaking there needs to be a broader initiative and drive to scale out rather than up. I think there is some momentum building around that, but there will come a day where we'll have some significant growing pains if we don't start tackling the issue now.

Thank you for sharing this review and this personal experience. I remember our discussion, 1:1, and I'm so glad you reached out to me, and so grateful that we were able to resolve this issue. Team members are my #1 priority, and they are the #1 priority of our leadership team, and every team member, at some point, will need our personal interaction and help, and we hope every team member will feel that they can reach out when that help is needed. Even more so, we hope that every team member will be supported and loved by their direct supervisor in extraordinary and consistent ways, and that those managers feel deeply supported by me and other members of the leadership team in advocating for our team members. I also appreciate your feedback regarding horizontal integration and scale, and I agree with this perspective. I'm excited to see some meaningful innovations coming horizontally at the platform layer and at the apps layer, and believe we'll see more of this focus in 2020 and beyond. Thank you again for your thoughtful review and for your contributions to the company's success! Best, Dan

Pros

The management team is very open about the High level direction of the company. They are very focused on becoming profitable. Very modern approach to employees and Work/Personal balance. Good bonus plans

Cons

In some cases their "Transparency" (favorite work of every meeting) has a negative affect on employees. Mixed messages on watching expenses vs revenue...then they spend money that is not necessary from an employees view and look for ways, that are damaging to employees, to offset expenses...

Thank you for your feedback and for choosing to join Health Catalyst, I appreciate you sharing your perspective on the topic of transparency, and agree that it is a tenuous balancing act between transparency and being a "human heat shield" as we have discussed in prior all-team-member meetings. We do tend to err on the side of transparency, trusting team members to be able to handle some of the bumpiness of this tendency to share information. But I acknowledge that, in hindsight, we haven't always gotten this balance exactly right. You have my commitment to strive to learn quickly and try to continuously improve in this regard. Thanks again, Dan
