Pros

I have been in healthcare/healthcare IT for 12+ years, and this is by far the best company I have ever worked for. Before joining the company I read a review on Glassdoor about someone "skipping" to work (as in they were so happy to go into the office every morning). I wasn't quite sure what to make of it, since I have never really felt that way with previous employers...but after being at Health Catalyst for a while, I can definitely say that they were right. The management of the team I am on is exceptional, and I have had the pleasure to work with world class developers and engineers. Every person has the best interest of the client in their minds, and everyone works together to ensure the clients are beyond satisfied. Health Catalyst continues to surprise me in many ways. There is so much flexibility offered (work life balance) and the benefits are beyond awesome. One thing that I particularly enjoy and consider it a MAJOR pro is that the company encourages well-being and wellness...As someone who prioritizes fitness, this is so cool that I can track my wellness with the fitness app, and I am encouraged to get out on the trail!

Cons

I take pride that I work for such a great company, and so far I cannot think of a single thing to write as a "con."

Thank you for your thoughts about your time here at Health Catalyst! I agree with your points, and also agree that one of our big challenges for the future will be to ensure that our culture evolves in a productive way. Because our company is growing so quickly, the way we do things will always evolve, and this will have some effect on culture, etc. However, whatever changes occur, we need to make sure that the changes don't violate our core principles and mission. Its hard to do. But I agree that it is vitally important to our success to get this right and maintain the growth and evolution in our culture. Thanks again!

Satisfying and challenging

Pros

-The work I do is challenging but being able to see actual change at a healthcare organization is incredibly satisfying -The people I work with work cooperatively and the company encourages collaboration -There are projects that are specifically geared to improving the organization beyond just the day to day work that is role specific, its important that we take the same approach that we expound at client sites -The organization has company values that are much more than just buzz words on a splash page on a website, they are woven throughout the operation and within the leadership -The leadership team is proactive and treats the team members as assets and not just cogs -I often find myself discussing my work with friends and former colleagues and its not until I see them react to small anecdotes about Health Catalyst that I realize how HC treats its employees isn't the status quo at other organizations. People take pride in working here and it shows in the day to day.

Cons

-Working remote presents challenges as sometimes it feels decisions are made within a bubble and sporadically disseminated to the teams -Not being centrally located in Salt Lake City was a challenge at first, however the company has already made large strides in being more inclusive -Our approach to sales, product development and marketing seems like we are limiting ourselves to a very specific slice of the market, many smaller, non system healthcare organizations can't afford our solution which is a shame because its many of these orgs that would benefit most from the process changes we deploy -Long engagement times at client sites can become an issue for dedicated client resources

Pros

Leadership sets an example of smart, hard working, and humble - the cultural attributes they look for in team members. Have never worked at a place whose leaders walks the talk as much as Health Catalyst. It's a transparent and positive environment for innovation and growth both personally and professionally.

Cons

Sometimes the freedom of innovation gets in the way of quality and consistency and best use of skills and resources. Though we are trying to continually improve our organizational structure and processes as we grow, the process can be painful sometimes.

Thank you for your nice review and thoughtful comments. We are seeing a similar feedback theme emerge from several of our "listening posts" around this concept of a need for clarity in role, accountability, and decision rights. I think this is a healthy, natural evolution of our business, and is happening at an appropriate time in our growth and maturity. To your point though, knowing that something is right and good doesn't necessarily mean it is easy or painless. :) This is something that is top of mind right now for the leadership team, and like you, I see some of the pain points that have developed over this. I also see potential "danger zones" ahead that need attention and adjustment along these lines so that we can minimize future challenges. Having said that, I absolutely think continued effort to provide more clarity and accountability is good, despite the short term pain. Thanks for caring enough about our company to comment. I view these critical reviews as a manifestation of the tremendous investment and loyalty our team members have in our collective mission. Onward!
