Pros

• I love working for a company with an amazing mission that is making a difference in the world. • I love Health Catalyst’s cultural attributes, value, and operational principles. It’s not a perfect company, but the core values are things I aspire to and they’re more than words on a website or framed on a wall somewhere. We talk about them regularly, especially in connection with company decisions. • Speaking of cultural attributes, I LOVE the people I’ve met and worked with at Health Catalyst. I love rubbing shoulders with people who inspire me. They’re continuous learners, hard-workers, humble difference makers, and all around world-class colleagues. I’ve made so many connections and friends for life. • I’ve had several opportunities for learning and growth. I am rarely bored and I've advanced in my career during the years I've been here. • We have an executive leadership team who truly cares about team members and tries to do what is best for everyone. They’re generally very transparent about decisions and why they decide what they do. In 2022 (and every year of my time here) I can point to several examples of difficult decisions that were made in a unique and thoughtful way that really had our best interests at heart and resulted in positive outcomes for team members and their jobs. This is so meaningful in the present economy and environment. • I appreciate the benefits. You can always wish for more or better benefits, but our benefits meet, and sometimes exceed, my needs in almost every instance.

Cons

• This past year has been bumpy with several ups and downs. There’s been a constant feeling of change and uncertainty, which is uncomfortable (and sometimes painful) for all of us. We’ve seen multiple reorganizations and changes in leadership and strategy. It's hard to get moved around and/or watch others get moved around and not feel sometimes feel like a pawn or cog. I think we’re headed in the right direction (I wouldn’t stay if I didn’t), but the dust hasn’t quite settled yet so that feeling of uncertainty persists. I realize that some of this is just the present state of the economy and the general environment at many companies, but I hope it changes soon. The positive side of this is having a leadership team that I truly trust to thoughtfully do what is best. I know they'll continue to be transparent about what we're facing and how we're going to tackle it. • Ever since COVID happened, I haven’t felt as connected to my team (and I was remote before COVID hit). We’re more remote friendly and distributed than ever, and I’m grateful for that. However, it has come with some disconnection from the team as we haven’t been able to do many face-to-face meetings or activities in a few years. That’s a reality in almost all remote companies, especially in the present environment of budget cuts, but I do miss feeling a stronger sense of connection. • Work/life balance can be difficult to achieve depending on your department and manager. It’s generally supported but it’s up to you to fight for it and make it happen in many cases.

Thanks for your insightful comments and your more than five years of contributions to the success of our company. I’m so glad to hear that we’ve often lived up to our operating principles and cultural attributes. And I’m sorry that you are feeling disconnected from the team. Please reach out to your direct manager or team mates to think through proactive ways to create connections and community. Additionally, please share your ideas for connection with the broader leadership team. We all could improve in this regard. It’s an essential part of your work life and we want to support it while being mindful of our current economic market conditions.
