Pros

The company has a noble mission to improve healthcare outcomes through the use of technology. It has a great culture of information sharing and transparency. Employees are generously compensation and the benefits are excellent as well.

Cons

The company has a noble mission to improve healthcare outcomes through the use of technology; however, throughout the years it has struggled to identify the most appropriate technology leaving many engineers uncertain where to focus their time and energy, leading to frustration as technologies are learned and frequently never applied. Constant re-organizations leave many struggling to adapt to new teams, products and related technologies.

Thanks for your thoughtful review. I am so glad we are living up to our operating principle of transparency. I agree we have had changes in strategic focus for our technology the last few years. We are working hard with many leaders to clarify our strategic priorities for 2024 and will continue to share our progress in our regular all team member meetings. Thanks for your more than eight years of contributions to our success! -Dan Burton

Thanks for your review. I am glad to hear that we are true to our values of caring for our team members. I agree we have had changes in strategic focus the last few years, reflected by our increased investment in our tech-enabled managed services offering. We are working hard with many leaders to share a clearly defined strategy for 2024, and we will share these strategic priorities as we continue to refine them in our regular all team member meetings, so that each of us, as fellow-owners, can understand and also contribute to the strategy of the company. Thanks for your more than four years of contributions to our success! Best, Dan Burton

Compassionate but flawed leadership

Pros

Health Catalyst has some of the absolutely best people I've ever had a chance to work with-- good, decent people that are extremely talented and mission-driven. That has been an absolute pleasure these last several years. Complimenting that, the mission and opportunity of the company are incredible-- something that feels real and meaningful while also being aspirational.

Cons

Lately, it feels like company leadership has been overwhelmed by the difficulties presented by COVID. Unfortunate company pivots have been marred by the impact of COVID on our client base and now leadership is scrambling to make decisions to navigate these difficulties and often making them with what appears to be a limited or myopic lens. Many senior leaders are some of the most compassionate people you'll ever meet, but many seem overwhelmed by the circumstances the company finds itself in and willfully limiting the information and view points they are considering in incredibly important decisions.

Thanks for your thoughtful review. I, too, believe that we have the best team members! And I agree that market realities have been difficult lately. However, I believe our tech-enabled managed services offering has incredible potential to help us achieve our mission on a larger scale than we’ve ever seen. As to heroics in our leadership, please share more with your Leadership Team member about what you’re witnessing. I think oftentimes leaders serve as a “human heat shield” to protect team members, which is appropriate. But that can be taken too far, which is when leaders benefit from kind, direct feedback. Thanks for your more than 5 years of contributions to our success! Best, Dan Burton
