Pros

They hire some excellent people. Big employee discount. Working for an essential service during pandemic.

Cons

They also left international employees high and dry with their visa renewals, leaving a lot of uncertainty for my peers regarding their living and working situations and complicating the work lives of their spouses.

Pros

Relatively decent people. Free snacks. Good discount on plans.

Cons

Just save yourself a huge headache, especially if you're interviewing to be on the marketing team. Within weeks of working there my boss quit and then 2 of my coworkers quit. They don't give promotions unless you've worked there for 1.5-2 years. They hire people above you with less experience than you. The marketing team is all over the place and people leave within 3-7 months of arriving. I chose to leave after about 8 months or so because I couldn't even make it to 1 year of employment. Easiest place I've ever left.

Pros

The snacks and food from the test kitchen are okay... and some of the people are a pleasure to work with. That’s about it.

Cons

Do not work here (especially if you’re lower level)! HelloFresh wants to pretend like they have a fun, innovative culture (maybe the international and/or non-NYC offices do), but from where I stand it’s all a facade. The only “healthy” work environments here are HR and MAYBE Finance, but if you’re not working for those teams, RUN! The stress that you’ll endure here just isn’t worth it. The majority of middle management is questionable at best in terms of leadership style and overall qualifications, and if you do luck up and get a manager that actually cares about you and your career development, chances are your department is HIGHLY inefficient and you’ll end up working overtime (for free) just to account for the lack of competency. A lot of people here are unfortunate enough to have both a terrible manager AND an inefficient team. On top of that, the company pays under market value for most of their positions so it’s REALLY not worth it. The company keeps “growing” so they continue to hire more and more employees without adequate space for them to actually work. A lot of supervisors are micromanagers and don’t want to let employees work remotely, let alone out of their sight, which results in a ridiculously overcrowded NYC office space. I’ve even seen a team with assigned “desks” at a shared 5 x 3 ft table in one of our small, humid conference rooms. Most of the meeting rooms are actually painted closets with no air flow or windows, by the way. Although HelloFresh has been public for months, the company still views itself as a “startup” and refuses to place any real policies around workplace safety and discrimination concerns, thus making everything “up to your manager’s discretion.” This is BY FAR the most toxic work environment I’ve ever been in. I’m only sharing this so that other people won’t be told a different story about working here before they start and then feel stuck like I did.
