Pros

If you are new to the construction industry with this company you will have the opportunity to learn hands on.

Cons

you are expected to work 70 hours a week, 12 hour days minimum if you leave after a 10 hr day you are said to that you leave early. Promotions are based on tenure.

Long Hours and Poor Teamwork

Pros

They do big projects that provide you with a great opportunity to learn a lot, good pay

Cons

Terrible work life balance. They say you can leave when the job is done but that rarely, if ever, happens. Colleagues will constantly comment if you leave after working 10 hours - this is considered 'early.' A cover-your-ass type of environment, if things go wrong, your own coworkers will be quick to throw you under the bus. Poor training of new employees, they live by a 'train your replacement' philosophy and if you are on a large, busy project there is rarely any time to effectively train you. Easy to feel overwhelmed and make mistakes, and get called out in front of coworkers at meetings. Overall, not worth the paycheck. Rarely have any time to take care of your life outside of work. Method of promotion leaves you generally limited to one path: field engineer to office engineer to project engineer to area superintendent. Only after this process will you be able to have options in where you want to go in your career. Limited path where people are promoted based on years at current position rather than merit. Senior management/supervisors stuck in old way of doing things and not very open to new approaches to get things done in a more effective way.

Pros

The health benefits are pretty decent. Hard to beat.

Cons

There is a reason why HP's rating has increased on Glassdoor over the past several months. It is not because upper management has addressed the issues at hand. It's due to upper management (VP,OP,GS,PM,PS) encouraging the staff during meetings, to increase HP's overall score due to a low rating that they have been receiving. These numbers are skewed and it's not appropriate to encourage your staff to deliberately give positive reviews to increase your overall score.
