Pros

-good discount on cars -weekly paychecks

Cons

-big paychecks are because you will be doing so much overtime (nights, weekends AND holidays) you no longer have a life, way too much mandatory overtime, you'll be lucky if you get a day off every 2-3 weeks -management really doesn't care about employees -communication between management and employees is terrible -training was not long enough or thorough enough, management had senior employees train new hires, then expected new hires to turn around and immediately train other new hires in same week -employees spend too much time gossiping and sabotaging each other and not enough time doing their jobs -turnover is high and everything is seniority based, but with the turnover it takes YEARS to achieve seniority where you won't be doing AT LEAST 60 hours a week. (I generally do around 75) -the sales manager is in everyones business and hinders other managers abilities to do their jobs properly, also constantly changing sales strategies but not communicating it to all staff, then reprimanding staff for not doing something when it was never communicated they should do it -Pretty much impossible to maintain relationships or go to school with this job since you will be working there 12+ hours a day 7 days a week

Pros

hmm...if you rent a lot, you will get discounts on car rentals

Cons

Where to start? Manager Trainee position should not require a college degree; I could've done this job while in high school. It’s a joke, they want college degrees but yet the pay is not even close to being decent. The only want to bring home 2000 a month after taxes would be to work 50 plus hours weekly, the bonus structure is totally not possible if you’re doing everything ethically. The company lets the customer abuse the employees and don't let the branch manager or area manager try to lie about it being easy to move up within the company. The only way to move up is if several people just die/quit, upper management is completely out of touch with what’s going on at the rental level. They want you to look professional, but yet they expect you to go out in 90 degree weather in a shirt and tie to clean cars, turn around and pick up customers and then also rent to them...wouldn't wish this on an enemy

Pros

Learn how to run a small franchise style business without the upfront money Learn about customer service. The good & bad Train new employees and coach them. (Some people like this) Learn how Corporate America does things from the ground up. They don't teach corporate in collage As a Manager you get car privileges. Drive nice new cars most of the time. You get un-taxed free car access. That is worth $10K per year. Gas, Insurance, No repairs and you can drive 40K SUV's or 30K cars all the time. You get free cars while on American vacations wherever you land. You stop @ other locations and gas your Hertz car while on road trips.

Cons

Upper management has very little field experience and lots of MBA's that tell you the impossible is possible. They have a chart that supports it... When they finally admit their plans cannot be implemented (They just say the focus changed...) & your location will waist money for nothing. Corporate will still have a job. Your Bonus plan always changes so you don't make too much money or want to stay in the position too long. You will be affected by upper management whose bonus plan has different agenda. It will cross yours and they will win by back office creative accounting & magical numbers & account movement. You might consider buying Hertz stock. Outside investors are the only place where the company must make money, show profits and distribute dividends. You may be written up and asked to improve and be fired for following an approved action plan You will be cleaning cars. Inside & out. In dress shoes and a tie. Year round. It is the business. Company refuses to enforce no smoking rules in cars. They give you a magic spray and customers are not happy. They get sick. Avis RAC already moved to no smoking fleet with a $250 smoke fine like hotels. Hertz has refused. Your Customer service reviews will be affected and you can't do a thing. If that is the only car on the lot or the only one with the feature the customer needs (Like 7 seats or 4X4 or small/Big size) you are SOL Company will overbook Vehicle categories and have you deliver the bad news to angry customers who will have their vacation plans ruined. Most upper management never rented a car in their life. Company allows overbooking of "special equipment" vehicles with no credit card & no cancelation fees 90% of the time / locations. The company does not even check & request real phone # to finalize reservations. Company will have you selling in store products customers are told not to buy and getting outside business like Body shops to refer business to you. Problem is that out of the airports they are the underdog and Enterprise kicks their behind. Most insurance reps rather work with Enterprise and body shops think the service is the same. They are probably not wrong. Management does not care. Only when they win a big insurance company via sales does the system really change. Nothing you in the field really made that happen. They will never admit that.
