Pros

1. Fast promotions for self-driven employees (I received 3 promotions in 7 months). 2. Drive a variety of new vehicles (though the novelty wears off quickly). 3. For off-airport locations, you will learn the basics of running your own business. 4. Lazy, unmotivated employees are quickly weeded out, so your co-workers are generally great people.

Cons

This list will unfortunately be longer: 1. Upper management is out of touch with ground level operations, especially when it comes to smaller off-airport locations. Blanketed sales goals for entire areas do not work for smaller off-airport locations (a 30 car branch has fewer opportunities to sell than a 250 car branch and they should not be compared). 2. Revenue Management (Sales) is not properly monitored. Employees that have worked long enough will find ways to fraudulently increase there sales numbers without actually selling anything. Simply increasing sales goals without properly monitoring and preventing fraudulent sales activity has only lead to more fraudulent activity. The more fraudulent activity that goes on, the less revenue branches actually bring in because a higher percentage of that revenue will be in the form of fraudulent sales that are paid out as commission. This is basically theft. 3. There are few standard operating procedures. It is not uncommon for every branch in an area to be running in different directions with no common goal in sight. 4. The pay is too low for the work required, especially for managers. 5. Work/Life balance, there is none. Myself and other managers have worked 60+ hour weeks, especially during peak seasons (my goal is 72 hours in 1 week). Yes, we are salary. 6. It is not uncommon to be short-staffed. There were times I would be the only person in the office with 4 open phones lines, a garage full of dirty cars, and customers waiting inside (you will be the master of multitasking). 7. Turnover is high. This is largely due to the reasons listed above (this is why good employees can be promoted quickly... keep that in mind...). 8. The bonus payout structure regularly changes, and not for your benefit. (Upper management changes the KPIs that determine your bonus payout to make it as low as possible). If that doesn't work, you may begin seeing additional expenses allocated to your branch. 9. After being stripped of bonus payouts during the holiday season, employees were blatantly asked to write good reviews on Glassdoor... If you will notice, many of the recent good reviews are coming from Naples, FL which is located roughly 30 minutes from Estero, FL, the site for the new Hertz Headquarters... There is even a recent review from an alleged Location Manager that reads, "Long hours. Definitely over 40 a week. But the plus side to that is OVERTIME!" Location Managers are salaried employees... So take all of these reviews, even this one, with a grain of salt. 10. TL;DR - Operations is not easy. You will be stretched thin and you will be stressed. However, you will also grow professionally and have the best work ethic compared to many employees outside of Hertz. If you can be successful at Hertz Operations, you can be successful anywhere. With that being said, it is a good resume builder, but I do not recommend Hertz long-term.

Pros

I have been with Hertz since March of 2003. I work in the maintenance department. I make over $25 an hour and $37.50 on overtime. We make on average at least $60,000 a year and some of us have even made over a $1000,000. The reason why is because of the local 222 Teamsters the Union. Other departments can make excellent $$$ if you can upsell with customers. Excellent PTO. Decent health insurance.

Cons

Management is very unorganized. Understaffed in a lot of departments. At times you will be forced to work a lot of hours.

Pros

COMPANY CAR! It is as advertised, you have an all expense paid company car(insurance, almost any model within last 12 months except premium/luxury cars). All location managers get free gas at any Hertz airport location nationwide. Major plus!!! And u get the freedom to switch cars at your leisure. No limit to miles, gas, or amount of times u can switch ur car! I was pulling up in something brand new every other day! Also, there is a chance to advance your career due to opportunity across the company all over the nation between Hertz/Dollar Thrifty/etc. Also great chance to network & interact w/ renter's from diverse backgrounds & the higher ups of major corporations if you're at an airport location.

Cons

The pay is a little subpar for the amount of work you do, but it's an entry level mgmt position. Simply putting it, this job needs to pay between $50-60k. U can expect to make right @ $38k/yr. The schedule is a beast. Please be ready, it is 24/7/365 operation. Don't get comfortable with a particular schedule, it changes monthly. The "normal hours" shifts are reserved for mgrs primarily by seniority. As a rookie LM, expect to work 3pm until 1 or 2am Thur-Monday. Also, you have to come in on your day off, unpaid, for any and all training/team meetings. Which causes you to lose between 1-3 off days per month on average for the year. Overall, u get good experience and a pretty decent resume builder. But expect to wear many different hats, manage a staff with extremely high turnover & put out a gazillion fires. Weird part is, for the biggest perk being able to drive any new car with free unlimited gas......The turnover for the Location mgr position is astronomical. They advertise this position every 90 days. Lol
