Yellowbook review

Pros

A great support system for new workers. Extensive training is followed by a six month mentor program in which a senior rep helps you hit the ground running. A great deal of freedom in an outside sales environment, as long as you are showing good/decent numbers. Great benefits, good commission structure. Ability to earn 60k-80k first year, 100k + for senior reps with larger accounts. Although hardly in the office, great work environment, good people to work with.

Cons

Hard to make good money at certain times throughout year, depending on territory. Not too many downsides with Yellowbook specifically, but with the industry in general. Community can tend to group all yellow pages together, which can be frustrating due to prior rude, unethical, obnoxious reps of other companies. At the mercy of many other factors, such as distribution, production, which at times ruins chances of sales. Takes long hours to be successful.

Pros

Best reason to work for Yellow book is to create your own schedule and go and do what you want when you want. They have great technology, and new tablet pc's. They have a lot of products to offer (some at ridiculous prices). The focus is to take (and make) as much money as possible.

Cons

Biggest downfall is the lack of communication between management and the field sales team. There is little to no focus on anything but being profitable. Each week something new is introduced and you are expected to be a pro at selling it, even with no training. Its tough to make a name for yourself in the industry unless you are willing to back stab and work insane amount of hours.

Pros

Strong focus on training. Excellent initial sales training. Top performers are often well-recognized.

Cons

Despite beefing up it's online portfolio, due to it's core biz being yellow page advertising, the company is viewed by clients as an industry on its way to extinction. Very hard to get appointments, yet alone sales. Years ago it was a great place to be able to make good money. Not anymore. Most reps see their income potential dropping by 20-25%/year. You're better off using your sales talents for an industry that's well-respected and thriving....not yellowbook. Inconsistent management. Strict focus on getting a set # of new, and not the dollar value. Can sell 2x more money-wise than any other rep and surpass your budget, but if you don't have the # of new, you're put on a performance improvement plan. I've seen some of the best reps terminated because of it. Stupid!
