Pros

I love the experience you get working in the hospitality industry, it really prepares you for further advancement. I like the cross-training too!

Cons

Low pay, lots of mistrust issues/blaming, management will not open up hiring candidate pool so we have some crappy employees who we can't get rid of.

Housekeeper

Pros

Self-paced (usually, on a slow day/weekday). Quiet environment. If you are not much of a people person, or don't like dealing with the public this would be great for you! Not alot of contact with the general public, at least compared to the front desk. Sometimes guests leave TIPS for you! During the middle of the week or during the winter you can manage to leave early because it is a slow day with little to no check-ins/check-outs.

Cons

The pay is not enough considering to amount of work it is! Even if you have experience in cleaning/housekeeping, most locations wont pay you higher than maybe $0.50 to a $1 over an entry level housekeeper. The hours can get LONGGGGG, especially on the weekends when it is the busiest. The work can get really old and tiring on your body if you aren't use to it or not physically fit enough. There are lots of risks on the job like injuries/accidents/hazardous chemicals getting on your skin. Most locations dont offer insurance to protect you from all this, only make you sign a paper saying they arent responsible if YOU get hurt on the job. Also there are times that bodily fluids, urine, blood, and feces can be found on furniture, bedding, towels, even in waste baskets in the room.......it's common to be exposed to all of this daily and sometimes we run out of latex gloves to protect us from these substances. VERY DANGEROUS! Lastly, some places don't have managers who schedule correctly and/or divide rooms between the housekeepers fairly. This causes some housekeepers to get burdened with crazy long hours back to back while others leave early day in and day out. Super unfair. If a location is privately owned, there isn't really ANY pay rises, if there are, it usually isnt more than $0.35 to a $0.50 raise yearly. At my location, only one housekeeper got promoted and it was to the front desk, with the same pay.....Pretty much zero career advancement with this company!

Pros

We have a great hotel with great team members and a great assistant manager. Guests love us!

Cons

Minimum wage, not enough hours, owner unappreciative, GM never there when needed. Don't have what we need when needed.
