Pros

Horizon was a fantastic place to work. From day one, they made sure that I was properly trained in order to succeed in my position. They were friendly and understanding. It was also really nice working for a place that makes a difference in the community.

Cons

A few cons from working at Horizon Health Services is that there seems to be decently high turnover from the clinical side. Where I worked, in human resources, this was not as much the case. However, we did lose some employees for higher paying jobs.

Pros

None. If you are a counselor, this role has potential to cause significant trauma.

Cons

Unfortunately, many young counselors get their start working at Horizon. This negative experience early on within their career can cause significant harm as they are made to feel inadequate, burnt out, and depressed. It's truly saddening to see such eager, bright, and kind souls who went into the helping profession become broken by an organization that takes advantage of them. Non-profit executives have a right to make decent salaries but their exorbitant incomes have come at the cost of their consumers and employees. Be incredibly wary of the positive reviews you see here on Glassdoor. Many employees are requested to write a positive review or fill out a survey discussing why Horizon is the best place to work. This creates pressure and coercion for employees. The overall business model at Horizon is exploitative.

Senior Counselor II

Pros

Lots of trainings, supervisions to work toward licensure, reimbursement for certifications / licensure, really affordable healthcare benefits

Cons

Unrealistic counselor expectations, Heavy paperwork burden, expect to spend several hours minimally each week outside of work on paperwork, cultural expectation to work through lunches, really high turnover rate and corporate doesn't care about workers - there's an attitude of being able to fill easily with the next batch of students graduating and services will continue
