      Salary compared with other districts is the main pro.

      Challenges include...super huge district and it's difficult to navigate through everything and find what you need.

      Pros

      HISD gives you real time experience for urban schools. Great place for teachers from TFA, with no prior classroom experience or training.

      Cons

      Very data driven, pushes students with tests each month, which actually takes away from instructional time. Extremely militant appraisal system. Unprofessional staff on campuses. Anyone can really teach here...which isn't a compliment.

      Substitute teaching allows flexibility in working. Substitute teachers can accept jobs when and where they chose.

      Cons

      Time reporters in schools are often late turning in pay information causing substitutes not to be paid on time in many instances.
