Pros

Getting to work with children, supporting public education and the vacation time... spring break and 2 weeks off for Christmas.

Cons

Every workplace has some sort of dysfunction but HISD tops the chart. The communications team I worked for was not proactive or strategic. Their management style is outdated and they seem to think that intimidation is the only way to get staff members to listen. This resulted in more than 5 team members leaving.

College Readiness Department is passionate about working with students. The cultural diversity within the department is great.

Of course, you will not get rich in the education field. You must have a passion for this.

The paid time off is great especially for those of us who have families with young children.

Cons

Promotion dependent upon who you know and not upon knowledge and experience. Employees with many years of service and lots of experience are being pushed out in lieu of younger employees.
