      Best teacher salary in the nation (when compared with cost of living)

      Pros

      Salary---Salary and Salary. The ASPIRE program is both a pro and a con. You can earn a huge bonus but it is not quite fair.

      Cons

      Principals are chosen based on who they know. Upper management is beyond stupid--nepotism runs crazy. Good employes are not recognized enough..there is no pride about working for HISD--people will put you down for being a public school teacher.

      Pros

      Everyone is eligible for health insurance. Time off. The kids.

      Cons

      Promotions are politcal and arbitrary and not based on performance. There is no Social Security.

      Pros

      Plenty of schools to choose from. If you relocate in Houston, changing jobs is easy when the company is this big. The pay is pretty good in comparison to surrounding schools.

      Cons

      Administrators try to run things while the teachers talk about them behind their backs. If you teach in urban area be prepared for no parent support and disrespectful kids.
