Pros

When I make mistakes, people help me learn and grow from it, and don't focus on blaming me. When I succeed, people help celebrate my success. This culture lays the groundwork for moving fast, failing fast, and continuous iteration which I think is key for success. Many companies stop caring about their employees' satisfaction as they scale. HubSpot is scaling like crazy and makes sure to invest proportionally in employee satisfaction. I think this will be instrumental in keeping HubSpot as a top destination for talent. Great product with extreme potential. I feel like my manager cares about finding work for me that interests me, while addressing the needs of the business. I have received great mentorship. Many fun / social opportunities (like mystery dinners, where employees are randomly matched with execs and share a meal together) Awesome facilities: showers, gym, meditation room, free kitchen, tea-making robot. Fantastic infrastructure and support for engineers. Clear communication about requirements for career growth.

Cons

401k matching is weak, some flashy benefits offered but 401k matching lags behind.

This is such a thoughtful review, thank you for making the time to share such detail about what you love about working here and the detailed feedback and advice for us, which seems spot on to me. I love that you feel your manager deeply cares about you, and I appreciate that you called out how much we care about employees as we scale, because it's absolutely true. To your advice, I promise that won't change as we scale and grow. And on life-work fit, Laura Parrott is leading some really wonderful work with the Energy Project that I think will really help us move the needle on life-work integration next year, keep your eye on her work there to keep us honest on how it's working and evolving. Thanks as ever for the feedback and for all you do to help the company grow! -Katie

Pros

• Sterling executive management team that is constantly unsatisfied and strives to improve • Understands that culture is like a shark - continuously moving forward with no steady state; actively invests in thoughtful and genuine initiatives that enrich the employee experience • Recognizes the complex challenges in tackling diversity, inclusion, and belonging and the nuances between mentorship and sponsorship; attempts to meaningfully improve in these arenas • Truly believes in transparency and allowing employees the ability to use good judgment • Best-in-breed business enablement infrastructure that supports flexible working styles • Supports continual education via tuition and Kindle reimbursements, in addition to inviting external speakers and implementing internal master classes and a fellows program • Allows dogs

Cons

• Total compensation below average • Variable quality in middle management

Thanks for the candid feedback and for being part of our HubSpot Alumni network-I'm delighted to hear you felt that we "get" culture and that our executive team is focused on iterating and growing plus getting diversity, inclusion, and belonging right. I also appreciate your candid feedback on compensation-we hired someone specifically to focus on internal mobility, so hopefully that will help folks feel like grow better applies very much to internal employees as well. Appreciate the feedback and have a wonderful Thanksgiving! -Katie

Pros

Very dynamic place. Probably the best managed engineering org I've seen. They've found a balance between process and productivity. Their infrastructure is top notch - you wont have to worry about solving silly infra problems that have been solved a million times before. People are nice. I've actually became friends with some of my co-workers, and we still stay in touch. Their product is great, and customers love it. You actually get to interact with customers as much as you have time for (UX tests, actual dinners with customers, annual conference) If you haven't so far, at HubSpot you will quickly learn what is actually important when it comes to making software. HubSpot is no one trick pony. There is plenty of innovation, new exciting things, and they MOVE FAST!

Cons

HubSpot is big on culture and this can be a bit overwhelming. You might feel like you are losing your own identity to it, or that your identity doesn't matter, and it is all about how well you work in the HubSpot system. Whether this is a good thing or not would make for an interesting discussion, but their approach works very well for them.

Thanks for being a HubSpot alum, and for sharing your feedback with us-I really appreciate it! The goal is definitely to do the positive things you outlined, but to also ensure we are really thinking about culture add over time and creating a culture where everyone can truly be themselves and uniquely so at HubSpot, so it sounds like based on your experience we have some continued work to do there, but appreciate the feedback and you spending time with us and praising engineering leadership--I would have to agree they are pretty incredible. Thanks for your review and come visit us again soon! -Katie
