Great Place to Work if You're Proactive!

Pros

Lovely people, terrific opportunities, transparency, and folks who actually care about all those buzzwords (think: work/life balance, unlimited vacation, diversity and inclusion).

Cons

Certain times of the year can be overwhelmingly busy. It can be hard to get help/direction because there's a lot of self-starting/proactivity expected, and other teams might be too busy to help you if your project isn't in their "lane."

This is the best company I've ever worked for.

Pros

HubSpot is a fantastic company to work for. They give you the freedom to design your own work projects. The opportunity to work alongside incredibly smart people and solve big, real-world problems. They actually care about the customers we're solving problems for. Everyone is seen as a "leader," and the professional growth opportunities are immense. Great ideas, dedication and work ethic, and emotional intelligence are valued more than anything. Plus, the office and all the benefits.

Cons

It's challenging, hard work. It can be stressful at times. And as a large company, it's competitive — not only to get hired, but once you're here, too. But it's exciting work, and it'll push you to grow in ways you never thought imaginable.

Thanks for the feedback-I would agree the work is challenging, alongside the pace, and that both can feel daunting at times, so it's good for folks to know standards are high, but I agree with you that the quality of the people we work with and problems we solve helps make this a pretty great place to work. I also love that you call out EQ and how it's prioritized at HubSpot-I happen to agree and hope we continue to prioritize it alongside empathy as we grow. Thanks for your feedback and all of your hard work! -Katie

Pros

Very autonomous environment with a lot smart people who are motivated. But not smart in a competitive or aggressive way. I've experienced 0 top-down pressure. I feel like I have the freedom to really dive into customer problems and be creative about solving them. HubSpot is customer obsessed and actually means it. The product hierarchy feels really flat. The culture is so friendly and genuine. People just say "hi" in the morning even if they don't know you. Simple stuff like that really matters. Also, dog friendly environment, UM WHAT. Amazing. The CEOs don't treat themselves like gods and I literally just saw one of the CEOs (Brian) walking around with his dog. They are very involved, but not in a control-freak type way. Their visions are also sound and reasonable, yet inspiring. They are smart dudes!

Cons

It's a growing company so there are some growing pains obviously associated with that. For example, not every team is on the same methodology...some practice Scrum, some don't practice anything. It's a very engineering focused culture with little project management so sometimes that's stressful because you never know what's going on or what the focus is. It feels like there's an aversion to process because they want to keep that "startup" feel. As a PM, you really gotta drive that focus or else things feel chaotic. Because each team is autonomous, you can try implementing some new stuff if your tech lead allows you to. The product culture is also learning how to measure success with releases. It seems like a new topic that they're trying to implement. There are some weird product/engineering things that need to be fixed, but it doesn't impact my positive feeling of working here. They just need to be open to new things and adopting practices from the top software companies.

Our founders are in fact smart and involved, so love that you called that out, and agree that sometimes the change around here feels a bit more like slightly organized chaos-you're right that more clarity around mission and alignment can and should help there. Thanks for your review and for helping HubSpot grow, I really appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts here! -Katie
