Pros

HubSpot offers a ton of great benefits for their employees such as unlimited PTO, 4 months paid of maternity/paternity leave, 10 or 12 free coaching and therapy sessions, $5000 annual training budget, etc... They also operate in a full autonomy environment which is a blessing and can be a curse depending on team dynamics. There are some incredible people who work there. Most of the people there are kind, extremely smart, and welcoming. I will be definitely keeping in keep with some of the incredible people I've had the pleasure to connect with.

Cons

It is not a good place to grow and thrive as a Product Manager. Industry proven ways to do agile development and product management is frowned upon by the engineering and product teams. It is common to ship features 3-4 months late and everyone is content with that. The lower level leadership team lack experience and struggle to lead effectively. This is not the fault of the leaders but more so HubSpot for not training their leaders properly. The role of being a PM seemed to be watered down. I would like to see PMs be more responsible for managing the backlog, setting priorities, help in executive and delivery.

Pros

Good product, solid growth of the company.

Cons

Too much positivity even when things are not going too well. Broken pay structure, I see a lot SSE1 getting paid more than SSE2. Unclear path for promotion. Too much reorg, I've had more managers(direct and skip level) in a little over 2 years than that I had in 8 years at my previous company.

Pros

Senior leadership makes positive changes and cares about the company culture. There are some rockstar tech leads and engineering managers here. Lots of opportunity to work with senior engineers. High mobility + flexibility. Engineers are encouraged to work on new projects/teams and to continue learning. Not very stressful, at least in my experience as a Software Engineer. I pretty much work 9-5 and don't feel pressured to work more than that. The company is experiencing a ton of growth and seems to be scaling well.

Cons

A handful of engineers have poor communication skills. There could be more training for engineers to not come across so arrogant, condescending, or harsh in their speech. It seems some senior engineers get promoted to tech lead too quickly. I have noticed some tech leads are better at being engineers than they are at empathizing with people. Not all tech leads will check in with you on a regular basis. This is hard when working in a remote world. Anyone in a leadership position should be trained to check in on new hires more often. Better to be over-communicative. Base compensation seems fair, but I think HubSpot could bump up the stock reward and signing bonus values to attract more talent.

Thanks for being on our engineering team, and for making the time to write a review. I love hearing that you have good life work integration and that you feel the internal support for mobility and flexibility, that's wonderful news. I'm flagging your push on EQ to our team to continue working with engineering leadership on, thanks for sending it our way--demonstrating we care about new hires and connecting with folks with empathy on feedback is critical to how we grow. Thanks again for your thoughtful feedback! -Katie
