Pros

HubSpot is a fantastic company to work for. The company prides itself first and foremost on solving for the customer, which is essential to any successful business. They also rely heavily on creating a work environment that employees love, as evidenced by the Culture Code.

Cons

Sales at HubSpot is a grind as we work on monthly quotas. That being said, the pay is good as well as the benefits.

On your "advice to management," I promise we are on it and will continue to be vigilant on this front. Our sales team is truly best in class, and I'm grateful to you for helping our prospects and customers grow globally--hope today's kickoff is a huge success, and a big thanks for your feedback.

Pros

Engineering teams are fully autonomous and operate in many ways like individual startups. The teams are only given a high-level mission and not individual features or dates to achieve. The incredibly talented PAAS and FAAS teams allow product teams to narrow their focus and rely on systems just working. The pace of the product teams is unbelievable. The company puts a large focus on personal growth. There are weekly tech talks for the product team, an occasional HubTalk/Failure Forum, classes for management training, and even classes on non-work related topics. Management reads all feedback and reacts accordingly. The product blog is great and another way for employees to share knowledge. The Culture Code is real. Every employee has the HEART referenced by that code.

Cons

The company puts a big focus on "Use Good Judgement" and being hands off. That is a great way to operate, but it may not be for everyone. HubSpot wouldn't be a good fit for engineers who need heavy processes or need to wait for someone to tell them what to do.

Thanks for the feedback--I agree with you that HubSpot is not a fit for everyone and that autonomy requires a comfort level with ambiguity that isn't a great fit for some engineers. I hope long-term we continue to find ways to balance autonomy with guidance and learning in a way that attracts folks who think like founders but doesn't isolate folks who have more experience in larger or more structured settings--if you have ideas on how we can improve, let me know. And the Failure Forum came from engineering feedback, so it's your team I have to thank for coming up with the idea and providing feedback on how we can improve on humility, so thank you! -Katie

Pros

HubSpot has won a ton of awards for a great place to work for a reason. I'm sure some things have changed as they have continued to grow but through the internal company wiki lots of information was transparent and anyone could find out what was going on. Beer fridge, ping pong, foosball and tons of free food.

Cons

If you aren't looking to work hard then this place probably isn't for you. At this point I also wouldn't think of HubSpot as a startup or a place for someone really looking to have a huge impact on a company of this size.

Thanks for submitting an alumni review! I think your advice is spot on, and we are working really hard on it. The only thing I'd push back on is impact--we have employees who have arrived in the last six months already having a huge impact on how we think about things (for example, a co-op made a suggestion in late December that we are working on implementing before February) so I'm hoping we continue to stay focused on ensuring that people regardless of level can have a huge impact on the company and our customers regardless of their level or title. Come back and visit us soon if you have time to do so! -Katie
