Pros

The pay was above market if you got an early equity grant.

Cons

The company is led by immature leaders who have no idea what they are doing. Many of them have been at HubSpot for years with no other true experience. Many of them are spoiled and have no idea what it means to lead a company. When new mature leaders join, they leave within a year or two after seeing what the existing leadership is like. The HubSpot leaders are mostly the same type of person. They've also made it very hard for anyone including top performers to get promoted or see any upward mobility as these leaders want to protect themselves. In addition, HubSpot's fun tech remote culture turned into a breeding ground for people to not try at all. People don't answer emails or slacks, cancel most meetings, and don't get work done. I would be all for not having to work too hard if it meant people still put in some effort to build a successful work environment, but most don't even do that. I'm shocked the company hasn't lost all good talent and suffered more against competitors yet.

We always appreciate candor and you taking the time to share your perspective. We are now over 8,000 colleagues globally with hundreds of people managers across the company. I know many leaders at HubSpot that are some of the brightest, most thoughtful and supportive people leaders I’ve seen. I certainly hope leaders are not blocking promotions or allowing underperformance as you’ve indicated. We have a robust performance management process that aims to provide clarity and equitable access to growth for all employees. It’s surprising to hear about your experience working with your colleagues, and sounds like a unique situation. Here’s the good news - you can help shape HubSpot for the better. Share this feedback with trusted leaders in your org. Or, if you don’t feel comfortable sharing there, reach out to the People Team for support. Thanks for all that you do. - The People Team
