Pros
On my unit, we had great camaraderie...I made lifelong friends. Free parking. Cafe food is pretty good. Theres a Starbucks open long enough for nightshift.
Cons
When I started in 2018, it was great. At that time, they didn't hire travel/contract nurses...at all. I dont mind travel nurses, but it just showed they had a strong, reliable HAPPY workforce of nurses. But when things started to unravel due to changes made by CEO, it reverberated throughout the whole system for the worse. By the time I left in 2021, the unit was mostly travel nurses because every was dissatisfied and quit. Poor management, causing toxic environment. They were not supportive throughout the pandemic. We didnt even get pizza! haha The pay is not competitive for LA county, not even Riverside county. My vacation was rescinded....while I was on vacation. I had 200 hrs of vacation I couldn't use due to short staffing during the pandemic. They would allow patients transfers at change of shift and then reprimand us for clocking out late. During the pandemic, they basically assigned unlicensed students to patients, as their nurse. Lastly, raises are not based on performance, but are based on co-workers opinions. If there is a coworker that wants to sabotage your pay, they make it very easy to.
