Pros

It was a paycheck and getting to work with some great families and teachers.

Cons

The owner has no management experience and has no idea what she is doing. The owner wants to just manage the business end of things from home so she can be with her family, while expecting staff to run the center from day to day and work long hours with no consideration of our family life. This company "nickels and dimes" their employees and will take advantage of as much work as they can get out of you and pay you "salary" so they can get away with it. They do not pay the correct rate for mileage expenses incurred as part of the job with marketing. They only ay 40 cents per mile. There are no benefits. I was expected to be there to meet with parents and conference on my days off as needed because I was a salaried employee. This is not a 40 hour work week. This job takes over your life. This type of tutoring is very outdated and has not been changed in 30 years. It is very "old school" and I saw kids miserable and hating learning due to the methods. It is a very boring way to learn for kids and not much teacher interaction for the cost. The price they charge parents is terrible! It costs thousands of dollars...as much or more than a year of college tuition. I would never recommend anyone send their child there or work there.

Pros

Educational mission and the commitment of the franchisees and center staff

Cons

Founders are not open to any new ideas and force a stale and fear driven political corporate culture. Hours are long and unreasonable. Founders do not trust franchisees.

Pros

Helping the children is rewarding, and the tutoring does help many students.

Cons

Unrealistic work hours - you are told you will work Monday through Thursday from 9am to 8:30pm, the reality is the center is open 7 days a week, and in order to make sales goals and to get all the busy work they require done, you will need to be there on weekends and late nights. There is no comp time for any extra time you put in, no overtime, and no appreciation for your time. They are always short-staffed, mainly due to employees quitting and the lengthy training period to get someone ramped up to be of any use. Unrealistically high expectations - if they were properly staffed, they'd be far more successful and they'd keep more employees.
