A good summer student experience

Pros

I had an awesome summer student experience. Got to learn a lot and the workers were awesome to work with. I would highly recommend working for Husky as a summer student, it really helps expose you to new things and you have fun while doing so.

Cons

Since you are a summer student you are limited to how much work you can do based on experience and length of work term. Four months was enough to figure out what you're doing but more time would have been nice.

very good work and life balance. I was lucky to have a open-minded, accomodating, creative manager.

Cons

no or little opportunity to work in a global setting. very conservative western canadian mindset (non-canadian, other industry experience is not as valued as western candian oil & gas experience). people are very protective and defensive about their jobs. Therefore, collaboration is not very easy at times. As the location is in Calgary, it is not a very exciting place to work as a young single professional.
