Pros

* They treat you well (when the oil price is high) * scheduling vacation isn't much of a problem

Cons

* The CIO loves his ego stroked by sycophants. Literally has his direct reports praise his leadership at the start of large meetings * Most long serving employees have the survival strategy of don't gather attention, so getting "champions" is very difficult * contractors do all the work, employees "lead" * they happily lay teams and people off at any opportunity * they proudly pay below average wages (for both employees and contractors) and it shows

IT is a mess

Pros

No micro-management. Six flex days a year. Decent salary. Husky employee peers value you. Good downtown location. CEO just bailed.

Cons

Outsourced model. You will be working with visible majorities - both on and offshore. Unqualified IT management with little vendor oversight/QA. Poor IS work management and prioritization. Management listens to vendors more than their own employees. Treat employees like a commodity - can be replaced at any time. Business makes many IT decisions. If you are looking for a technical career, there wont be much advancement. If you are good as sucking up, then Husky might be the right place for you.

Leadership - IS

Pros

Co workers are friendly; potential to improve

Cons

Bully leadership mentality while the other IS leaders are clueless and incompetent. Zero FT females in IS management at any level or appearance of opportunity. No raises/bonuses/training or recognition of being valued within IS Dept. Promotions based on who says "yes" vs qualified or capable. No interest in adopting or investing in new IS technology.
