Pros

Hy-Vee in general was an amazing company to work for I loved it. The people you worked with, the customers the environment was great. Great first job and great career opportunity (if you go full time)

Cons

It's not the easiest to get a full time position.

Pros

Flexible hours, strong employee of employee community, personable asst. managers. Good first job. Very easy to find a store department fit for you if you don't like checking or bagging.

Cons

No employee benefit for part timers, almost impossible to get full time unless you're a manager or have been at the store for 15 years. Very conservative dresscode enforced only on men - female employees are given passes on facial piercings, hair color, tattoos, etc. I walked in once with my shirt untucked (bc the store is 90 degrees and they stopped enforcing it on female employees) and was threatened with being sent home. Upper management is very sketchy and communicates very little with employees unless they're being nosy or checking up on dress code. The one single benefit employees get at the store is getting employee meals for a dollar or so cheaper but the food is often reheated or completely raw. Management have no spine and will bend over backwards to comply with customers that will outright bully employees to tears.

Pros

Co-workers are helpful and nice. Easy to get shifts covered or forgiven if time off is needed. Flexible in schedules and pay is good for the job. Great for those in high school or college.

Cons

Management is terrible. They never do their own jobs and constantly bug the assistant managers or part time workers. Nobody there seems to care if you do or don't show up for shifts or arrive on time. They never fire anyone and that makes the work hard for those that do show up regularly. Hours are always being cut which makes work difficult when you are there. You'll rarely get to leave on time and always be asked to stay late. No benefits for working at the store either. Once a month you get a discount, and a slightly cheaper meal option is avialible while on break.
