Pros

If you establish that you're capable, store management will allow some degree of independence. Camaraderie between employees with the same level of responsibility is typically strong (common in the grocery business).

Cons

Advancement opportunities are generally only offered to those "in the club." Hy-Vee's much-touted employee ownership is disappearing. Assistant manager titles are handed out as token gestures, so they mean little.

Mass hire, mass fire

Pros

Flexible hours. Other part-time staff were friendly and easy to get along with.

Cons

Management hired too many people during grand openings, so I was apart of the mass termination. Even though the trainings focused on customer service the job was more about production than assisting customer needs.
