Pros

PERCEIVED IBM brand. Great opportunities for different types of consulting assignments, though not so much anymore due to the infighting for bill rates between organizations. Good job security but poor opportunities to grow, so if security's your only criteria in measuring a 'GREAT' company, then it's an OK place. 90% of your IBM colleagues are truly GREAT and you will learn far more from each other than the company.

Cons

Consultants have NO work/life balance; just utilization targets. Period. Anyone who tells you otherwise isn't a full time consultant at IBM. Negotiate your salary VERY carefully before you sign off. Virtually NO raises once you get in, and you'll quickly find that new hires (many MUCH less experienced), make MUCH more than you do because they knew how to research and negotiate better. Also, bonuses are a joke so focus on your BASE pay.

Pros

To get the name on your resume, nothing else. Or if you like telecommuting, then this might be the place for you. The 3 weeks of vacation is good for new-hires, but taking them can be hard. Use it or lose it, your manager might not approve it when you need it the most.

Cons

Work and life balance is just some old wives' tales, and the pay absolutely sucks.

Pros

IBM is probably the best company on earth that has successfully incorporated work/life balance into its business culture. IBM helps the world get a little bit more green by supporting its employees flexible workplace options and thus help reduce consumption of fossil fuels for commuting. IBM for the most part exhibits tolerance towards diversity and different backgrounds and truly incorporates diversity into its business model.

Cons

There is very little career prospects or skills growth opportunities once you join at IBM at any given level. New projects and job opportunities are handed to known and safer contacts within the department and there is very little if any cross-departmental hiring (huge silo mentality). It is near impossible to get promoted and very difficult to get reasonable salary increases even if you put in years of your life with hard work and dedication for client success. Constant threat of off-shoring and reorganizing people at the whims and fancies of executives and low-morale of the employees.
